Estimates for the 2026/27 tax year · how we calculate this
How this calculator works
We apply the 2026/27 rates and thresholds in the order HMRC does: pension contributions (and salary sacrifice) first, then the personal allowance of £12,570 (tapered above £100,000), then income tax through the bands — 20% / 40% / 45% in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or the six Scottish bands from 19% to 48%. Employee National Insurance is 8% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above. Student loan repayments are 9% (6% postgraduate) of income above your plan's threshold.
Pension contributions are capped at the £60,000 annual allowance. If you're a high earner, your real allowance may be lower — check the tapered annual allowance calculator and our 2026/27 taper guide.
